Who said glass always needs to be transparent?

Go Back

Whether in painting, fashion, or architecture, color offers a wide range of design possibilities. To ensure these possibilities remain unlimited, Glas Marte has made a very broad range of color options available to you.

Color in Flat Glass

Color shapes how we perceive architecture: it can calm or enliven spaces, highlight materials, or deliberately recede into the background. When combined with light, colored glass takes on a special depth—sometimes transparent and light, sometimes dense and powerful. Glas Marte harnesses this potential with an exceptionally wide range of colored flat glass, ranging from subtle tones to bold statement colors.

With the GM COLOR WORLDS, designers have access to a structured guide through thousands of color shades. The collections demonstrate how different tones can be combined into harmonious color schemes—from cool, clear glass surfaces to earthy, natural shades and warm hues that create deliberate accents. This quickly reveals the atmosphere a project can later evoke.

Color palettes instead of single colors

Instead of offering just individual color codes, Glas Marte thinks in terms of cohesive color schemes. Each group is linked to a characteristic mood: some tones appear calm and understated, others evoke nature and the landscape, while still others bring energy and dynamism to the building. This allows a suitable color scheme to be developed for every project—from the entrance area to balustrades and partition walls, all the way to the façade.

The GM COLOR PALETTES are based on a wide selection of shades that are reproducible in glass, durable, and proven in practice. Because the type of glass, glass thickness, and lighting conditions influence the effect, Glas Marte always recommends sampling with original glass—this way, architects and building owners can see how the color appears in real light and from different angles.

Three Ways to Create a Colored Glass Surface

At Glas Marte, color is incorporated into or applied to the glass in various ways—depending on whether the goal is to create custom patterns, large-scale uniform tones, or colored surfaces with safety features.

With screen printing using GM PRINTMART®, ceramic inks are applied to the glass surface and then fired. This results in glass surfaces ranging from delicate halftones to large-scale motifs. Whether a subtle texture, logo, gradient, or solid color—screen printing is particularly suitable when graphics and color play a role together or when glass surfaces need to be textured.

In the GM ESG COLORMART® enamel process, the color is applied as a solid layer using roller printing and fused to the glass in a kiln. The result is homogeneous, opaque color fields with high durability. The enameled surfaces are robust, easy to clean, and suitable for interior walls, doors, and furniture panels as well as for facade applications. The specially developed color collection is continuously expanded and aligns with current design trends without losing its long-term appeal.

The colored laminated safety glass GM VSG LAMIMART® COLOR brings color between the glass panes: Special films create an enormous range of transparent, translucent, or opaque shades. At the same time, the laminated structure provides additional safety and, depending on the system configuration, also fall protection. Colored laminated safety glass is ideal for any application where railings, balustrades, partitions, or facade elements need to not only look good but also provide protection.

Applications: Paint that Lasts

Colored flat glass from Glas Marte can be found in a wide variety of projects: in entryways, where glass surfaces guide visitors and highlight the corporate identity; in offices, where colored partitions and wall cladding define different zones; in the hospitality and restaurant industry, where glass surfaces are used to deliberately create atmosphere; as well as in residential and public buildings, where balustrades, parapets, or closed facade elements are designed with color.

Because screen printing, enamel, and colored laminated safety glass can be combined, color schemes can be implemented consistently throughout the entire building. A color appearing as a balustrade can be repeated as a back wall in the interior or continued in partition walls—always adapted to function, safety requirements, and ease of cleaning.

From Concept to the Right Color Scheme

To ensure that an initial color concept evolves into a technically sound solution, Glas Marte assists with the selection of glass type, construction, and color options. Samples, the GM FARBWELTEN collections, and illustrative references help facilitate decision-making and win over clients. This results in designs where color is not merely decorative, but an integral part of the architecture.

Whether you’re planning a project with colored flat glass or want to translate an existing color scheme into glass, the flat glass team at Glas Marte will guide you from the early design phase through to completion—ensuring your color concept is brought to life in the finished project.
